Gotta unscrew the 4 corners and then take the pickup off (2 side screws) from each.

Each screw on the corner holds the pickup to the guitar and the ones in the center hold the pickup to the ring.

Re: How do you take covers off pickups?
Youre talking about taking the pup off the guitar? i can do that
I mean, i already have these Gibson pickups that come with gold covers soldered to the pup wings, with a row of exposed screw pole pieces...
Theyre out of a LP Studio, i just want to see how the thing looks without the covers...

I use a razor blade from a utility knife and just cut through the solder. There's no chance of over heating anything that way.

Once you sever the solder connection, the covers will pop right off. The solder is the only thing holding the covers on. It's been a while I've messed around with metal humbucker covers but I don't recall having to take out the the adjustable polepiece screws to remove the covers.

Re: How do you take covers off pickups?
well your going to find out taking the covers off is going to show you a pickup with a ton of wax on them.. There potted 90% of the time, and its going to be caked with wax, thats going to take a long time to get it all off.

Re: How do you take covers off pickups?
Great advice guys...
My camera kinda sucks, it doesnt have macro mode, so, any pic i want to take comes out of focus...
I read on the Gibson site that all covered pups are double dipped, so yeah, i kinda expect it to look like a bar of soap once i open it...
What would be a good way to take the wax off the front, without damaging it, but also without affecting the potting underneath (there between the coils and stuff) ?
thanx!
