How does the Custom 5 clean up?

I've heard the clean bridge sample on Seymour Duncan's website and it sounded quite dirty. The distorted tone totally kicked ass and I loved it. Yet, it's a huge disadvantage of I can't get a nice glassy clean out of it.

Can anyone with experience using the Custom 5 chime in on this? Thanks!

You can definitely get a nice clean chime from the C5, perhaps more so than the Custom or the Custom Custom. It's got a nice bright top end with some midrange combing that keeps it nice and clean if you turn your volume knob down a little, or if you run the gain low. I'll have to listen to the soundclip to hear what you're referring to. I know those were made on a vintage Fender, so perhaps it's driving the Fender a little but that wouldn't be the case with any modern amp.

I made a Custom 5 by taking the magnet of a 498t and putting it in a DuncanCustom. Man, what a nice sound. The cleans were bright and chimey and the crunch was bright yet very warm. much better than either 498t or DuncanCustom. I found the customcustom underpowered and very middy but good under heavy distortion..
