How to find out?

Guys,

I've just replaced a pup on my guitar, and I'm pretty okay with the sound (I have an open question on this same board, by the way).

But, just to be sure, I'd like to know how I can tell if a specific coil (say on the bridge humbucker) is "on" or "off" at a specific position.

I notice the change in tone as the switch goes from 1 to 5, but I'd like to be sure I've properly soldered stuff together.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if it's the reccomended method, but I find tapping the pole pieces with a screwdriver makes a click on the coils that are 'on'

Yup-but with the distortion off, because if you're checking for single coil operation on a humbucker, the coil that is off will still make a sound, just lighter. Overdrive compresses the sound and you can't tell. The other pickups may make a noise even when off, but that's just sympathetic. Listen for the strong noise.

yeah, thats what I do. Just get something metal like a screwdriver and tap the pole-pieces on the pickup.
If it makes a noise then its fine!
