HSS Tone Zone and what?
Hey guys,
I am putting together a guitar. It should be pretty bright sounding with the wood and all. I chose the
Tone Zone
for the bridge, but what are good choices for the mid and neck single coils?
The Dimarzio website suggests pairing the tonezone with Cruiser or Fast Track 1 pickups. So should I buy two Cruisers, or Two Fast Tracks, or one of each? Thoughts?
And also what volume and tone pots should I be looking for a balanced sound?
Thanks

Re: HSS Tone Zone and what?
The FT1 is like a REALLY bright, loud single coil. I've never tried a cruiser, but my guess would be that it'd keep the vibe common with the TZ.

Re: HSS Tone Zone and what?
The Fast Track in the middle is great. I had one guitar with a Cruiser in the middle and Fast Track in the neck, but it had a bridge
pickup
that was weaker than the Tone Zone. You might prefer the Fast Tracks. If you like the Tone Zone/Air Norton combo then you could try the Air Norton S. One thing they suggest on the Pro Track page is to use the Fast Track in the middle and the Cruiser in the neck. That is the opposite of the way I would put them. I would but the lower output Cruiser in the middle and the higher output Fast track in the neck. That way you have a good neck lead "boost" built in, and I feel it gives crispier, quackier in between sounds.

100% agree,i have this combo myself, well Blue velvet as my middle. The Fast track 2 as a neck pickup is great, very warm and smooth. It sounds like the IBZ F1(basically a Breed) neck pick up in a Saber, awesome for lead work and cleans.
All of my above comments are based on my experience's with these p'ups in maple topped mahogany,Paf Pro-Blue velvet-Fast track 2.

So does anyone have any thoughts on the volume and tone pots?

Re: HSS Tone Zone and what?
I'll go with 2x Dimarzio FS-1.
Vol and tone still the 500k.
One of my 760 has this combination, and it's good.

I hav 2 agree with frankfalbo, just because when i used the cruiser in the neck with the TZ at the bridge it isn't balanced very well; because of the fairly large sized magnets in the cruiser i couldn't get it high enough w/o it running into the strings.
