Hum-cancelling wiring issue

That's a question I'd like to ask you 'bout wiring of humcancelling pups:
If I have any humcancelling pup (in my case DiMarzio Virtual Vintage Solo) and I wanna put it in the middle position of my JEM to get humcancelling sound in position 3 of standard 5-way switch how I should wire it?
my idea: solder black and white wires together and do not connect them to anywhere, red wire is hot and is connected to switch, green and bare are connected to volume pot.
Is this wiring correct for getting sound with no hum while playing in position 3 (only this pup is on)?

Just a thought. I'd have thought you're going to lose the Strat-y tone in positions 2 and 4 unless you ground the black and white in those positions.

So as I've understood if I connect the bl&wh to the ground (on the volume pot as the green and bare?) I'll keep the stratish sound? Will it be humcanceling or not?

Black and white connected together but not attached to anything else will give you a humbucker in the middle position, which is what you're after. But it'll also be a humbucker in positions 2 & 4, so I'd have thought you would lose some of that characteristic, glassy sound .

If you ground black and white permanently (by connecting to the volume pot chassis), you will have a single coil all the time, so no hum cancelling in position 3. Not sure how you would go about splitting the coils only in both positions 2 & 4 without causing some other switching problems, though. Possibly via a separate toggle switch?

Re: Hum-cancelling wiring issue

The main thing for me is no hum while playing in positions 1,3,5 on any sound. I don't use positions 2 and 4 very much. So I don't connect black and white to anywhere and get that clear sound, yeah?

Sorry for some annoying things but if I disconnect the black and white wires from the switch on the neck and bridge humbuckers from the switch will I get such variety of sounds:
1: neck hb
2: neck hb + middle hum-canc : sound with no hum
3: middle hum-canc : no hum
4: bridge hb + middle hum-canc : no hum
5: bridge hb
As I've understood disconnecting the bl&wh wires from the switch means disabling of coil tapping.
Am I right?

That's right, yes - connecting black and white together connects the two coils of the pickup in series, so you always have a humbucker.

The neck and bridge pickups will be coil split in positions 2 and 4, as previous, but you shouldn't get any hum in any switch position.
