Humbucker sized p-90

anybody have some reccomendations for p-90's that fit in a humbucker spot...i am wanting something both warm and hot, not too much treble and plenty of crunch when i need it...

Dimarzio Bluesbucker should fit the bill.. if not that then the Duncan Phat Cat.

Re: Humbucker sized p-90

i have read reviews that both of these (especially the bluebucker) are very tinny and have lots of treble...i have read that the gibson p-94 is good (though expensive) and that the bulldog humbucker sized p-90 is good but i cannot find the latter on the official site (bulldogpickups.com) so i have sent an email to their site...any other obscure suggestions would be appreciated...

GFS (Guitarfetish) sell 90's in humbucker size.

I have Dream 180s and they are pretty good.

I couldn't think of a less accurate way to describe a Bluesbucker. It sounds very much like a P90, and if anything its lacking a tiny bit of the sparkle.

Re: Humbucker sized p-90

well, bulldog pickups replied and will pretty much make me whatever i want...for about 185$.
on the other hand, guitarfetish is an excellent deal! 35$! i have sent them an e-mail about boosting the upper bass some on the dream 90...they can charge me double if they want (i didn't tell them that of course lol)
i looked for more reviews of the bluesbucker and found many more of the same description that i had found earlier, some compared it to a tele bridge pickup...i haven't heard one for myself but i specifically want beefy lol

Re: Humbucker sized p-90

The whole point of the telecaster bridge pickup sound it that it has a really "beefy" sound whilst adding the twang created by the fixed bridge. For a standard single coil it sounds remarkably like a P90.

You ever played a P90? Are you really sure it is the sound you want?

Re: Humbucker sized p-90

or get the Dream 90 from GFS and have the guy (Salamander in the Sun) in the vendor section "fix it" to your liking.

Re: Humbucker sized p-90

I worked at a guitar (retail/repair) shop for about a year,i have played a few p-90's and many, many telecasters. i will sample some more p-90's to be sure that the ones i tried were not flukes, cause i am positive that i don't want a telecaster tone lol! the few p-90's i tried were in epiphones and squiers but had a thick upper bass and lower mid tone with enough output to play some mild heavy metal when dirty and warm mild jazz on clean (i have a hard rock band and play lead in the langston university jazz band)...
sounds like that salamander guy might be helpful, any idea on his prices? i give lessons for a living, and therefore live on the edge of being broke at all times lol!

Re: Humbucker sized p-90

I'd be interested to hear how it goes too. I've only recently discovered the joys of the P90 (several of my guitars have them now!) and they are a firm favourite for the neck position.
