I introduce to you , FRANKENBUCKER!

Hey guys

Tried to fit a set of emg85s .... FAIL ... so i went back to my tonezone and airnorton for the meantime 1 vol 1 tone 3 way switch , 1 pushpull vol coiltap.

But then when mounting the tone zone , i realised the threads had worn away and it would no longer raise or lower on the screw shaft ARGH! Tried 6 other screws , no luck.

So after a few whiskeys and a pipe of questionable substance , i had the idea of removing the back from a D-Sonic , and switching it eith the tonezones back ! Then i went the whole way and put the magnet from the tonezone in the D sonic and mounted it.

OH MY GOD! This pickup is insane! excellent cleans, killer distortion , its like a tonezone without teh muddyness , yet also doesnt have the too in your face d sonic cleans i disliked.

Try this as soon as you can guys , its a VERY good combination , however the tonezone with d sonic magnet was like a mega output single coil , serious twang , not for me !

GET MODDING!

Sounds great.

I'll try some combinations as soon as I can.

I think you should post some vids on youtube, just let people hear how it sounds.

I think DiMarzio should read this.

Re: I introduce to you , FRANKENBUCKER!

what happened there... and is easily accomplished thru a magnet change. If i follow this correctly you wound up with the D-Sonic coils on top of the TZ's magnet. What you did essentially is switch the magnet from a ceramic to an Alnico 5 magnet. this gives you a lower magnetic field and a higher amount of iron in the pickup which shifts the resonance down and sort of 'mellows' the sound out. Looking at the specs of the D-S its about 12k and the TZ is usually around 17k but there is a lot more iron in the D-S's structure and even more now with the Alnico 5 magnet. But that may be offset by the fact that the big bar is transmitting a lot of the magnetism out to the strings than you get with the typical PAF/TZ structure. I bet it does sound pretty cool, being a multi-resonant coil setup.
Anyway, standard Alnico 5 bar magnets are available on E*** or and Stew Mac and a number of other places and are a pretty easy swap with most Non-SuperDistortion-build Dimarzio pickups. It would be cheaper to do that then buy 2 pickups. One of my Favorites is an Alnico 5 in an F2 pickup with one of the magnet bars removed. Now that you have that spare ceramic magnet slip it into the TZ and use it for a neck pickup, you might be surprised at how it sounds if you dont put it to close to the strings You can take the tabs that the screws go thru, and bend them slightly across the openeing and 'close' up the width of the hole and the screws should hold well then.
Hmmmm I am giving away all of my secrets...

hey guys, thanks for your answers!

I just put the ceramic? magnet from the D sonic into a HumbuckerFromHell casing - Its a strange sound. I might be wrong but the high magnetic output and those allen key pole pieces make it sound evolution pickupish ... High output , but warm as hell , somewhere between a dimarzio and emg sound .

Not bad but a plain air norton was better ..... Its coming apart next

Edit: That one was tried in the neck position

oh I bet that was just painful...
its a very low resistance pickup the HfH even in the bass position with that magnet in it it probably was like an ice pick in your eye...
I bet the AN sounds better with it...
