I want to do this.. but how?

Proposition:
I want to press a button that will switch between my neck and bridge pickup.

Example:
I'm on bridge pickup, I press the button and it switched to neck pickup and stays there. When I press the button again it switches back to bridge pickup.

What I need:
Basically, when I press the button down, how do I keep it pressed without holding it? I did a kill switch mod and you have to keep the button held for it to be muted.. how do I make it so that when I press it down it stays off, then when I press it again it un-mutes? Is it a special type of push button? Or do I just have to wire it in a special way? The push button I'm using has 2 prongs on it.

Why?
I think it would be cool just to push a button instead of flicking the 5 way selector. Will be faster!!

Thanks.

Re: I want to do this.. but how?

You'll need a latching single pole double throw (SPDT) Switch.
This means there is one rows of contacts (single pole) and the contact switches between two connections (double throw).
you could also use half of a double pole double throw (DPDT) switch, these are commonly available on push pull pots.

Connect the middle contact (on one side if DPDT) to the selector the bridge wire is connected to, remove the bridge wire from the selector and connect it to the top contact. Connect the neck wire to the bottom contact (leave the neck wire also connected to the selector switch).

a toggle switch is a lot faster than a 5 way switch and probably easier to hit than a spdt switch.
I mean if you do fast pups changes,it's so easy to hit a toggle switch but with a spdt switch you'd have to press it down.
If you don't know a spdt switch is the same as on/off switches wahs have. You need some strenght to press it down,at the end even a 5 way switch would be faster.

yeah i really think that would be a hell of a lot of effort to implement and wouldn't actually be worth it at all.

Just to clarify, SPDT and DPDT switches can be either push switches or toggle switches (or any other variety), it just describes the operation of the contacts, not the mechanical method used to work the switch. As long as your switch is latching (I think I said locking previously, will correct), you won't have to keep it pressed/pushed. As long as it's at least SPDT, you can do the selection you want.

Okay thats the info I was missing.. the types of switches there are. The latching action type is what I'm after. Thanks Vim Fuego!!!! I appreciate it.
