Question

Ibanez Gio/Old EMG Wiring Suggestions?

Hey guys,
I have a pair of EMG 81's I got second hand years ago, and these don't have the 3 wire plug; just the red wire and white wire with shielding. The guitar originally had stock humbuckers in them, but the wiring was shot so I have to redo it all. I guess I'm just asking for help with the wiring because most of the stuff I find on EMG tells me to look at the instructions I got with them (I'm pretty sure these pickups are from early 90's... so I don't have the booklet) or they just show the EMG kit with plug and all.

Please forgive me, I've been playing for years but I'm just now starting to dabble in active pickups, So I don't know much about the wiring in general, let alone these original pups. I prefer my other Ibanez RG with a D-Sonic and an Air Norton, but I'm wanting to experiment with different sounds and see what people are always raving about.

What all do I need? I have a 3 way selector, a D500k pot in the tone position, and I can't quite see the other due to solder, but it looks like it says WD500k. The input jack is a standard mono jack.

I've heard I should use low impedance pots like 25k and a stereo jack. Would the stock 3 way selector be sufficient when switching to EMG's? Does anyone have a diagram for this? Any input or help would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

You want the 1 Vol, 1 Tone w/ 3 position lever switch diagram that's in the middle of page 3. You will need the 25K pots if you want to make sure the pickups sound right or you'll almost certainly be disappointed with them. The stereo jack is also important because it's what allows the battery to be disengaged when the cable is unplugged. Don't worry about how the wires connect to the pickup, whether hardwired or quick connect, it really doesn't matter, the wiring at the other end is the same regardless.
