Ibanez RG320 > DiMarzios (Wiring)

Ok I put some DiMarzio's in my RG about a month back and I'm fairly certain the schematics I was following were wrong.

That's the one I was following, except I was told later to switch the red and black from the bridge, which I did.

Ok the way it sounds is this;

Bridge: Ugh...real trebly, thin and middy, souds really hollow
Middle: Nice clean, a lot more fuller than the bridge
Neck: Barely any volume at all, middle and bridge are much louder
The other 2 spots, 2 and 4, are also very low in volume.

So any help?

I only have some crappy bass amp to test any changes immediately, but I've been going to a music store to play it through an ENGL whenever I get the chance...the distortion sounds horrid the way these are wired.

Try swaping the red and black wires in that diagram.

Though, I would look for some RG7620 schematics, as that guitar used Dimarzio's stock and had the same switch postions.

Ok you mean for the bridge and the neck? I was told just to switch the ones from the bridge.

I mainly said that because that diagram shows the red being used as part of the series link, which is wrong for Dimarzios.

Here, give this a shot:
http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=2000&w=RG7620 (ignore that they list both as 'neck', the bottom pickup is the bridge)

That one is totally different to what I have now, I'll resolder that configuration tomorrow.

What wire do I need to connect the output jack to where ever it connects to? The wire was freyed, so I trimmed it, but now it's too short, so I need a new wire. So what wire do I need?

We used to chop up those cheap plastic-ended guitar cords for output jack wire. You want a shielded wire, 26 gauge or so stranded center conductor, using the outter shield wire as ground.

Something like the top one pictured here:

Re: Ibanez RG320 > DiMarzios

Yeah my output jack is all good, no more scratching and buzzing.

Havn't had a chance to test my pups through a guitar amp yet, Uni is a real time drainer, but I'll hopefully make it into a store soon enough.

Thanks for your help so far everyone.

Re: Ibanez RG320 > DiMarzios

OK!!! After many months of rewiring I think that it's finally done. I finally went to a store the other day and I was getting the expected tone, but there was this loud buzzing sound like there was no ground or something. But I think it was just me switching the wires to the output jack so I switched them and have to go in again to see if that buzz is still there.

Thanks guys, great help and it sounds like secks.
