Question

Ibanez to DiMarzio pickup conversion

Hi guys, i've recently bought some new pickups for my 1820X I decided on the air norton (a favourite it seems!), for the neck, and the D sonic (not so well liked :P), for the bridge, to replace the v7/v8.

Now my question is this... I cant wire the DM's by saying green to green, red to red etc because the wire colours are coded differently right? So can anyone tell me which ibanez wires are equal to the dimarzio wires?

I did have a look around but couldnt find anything, I think I remember someone saying reds and blacks are the same but you need to swap the green and white? I even tried finding an ibanez guitar with 2 dimarzio humbuckers and a 5-position switch and getting the wiring diagram for that from the ibanez website... no luck there either! If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

Re: Ibanez to DiMarzio pickup conversion

I have had this problem multiple times, even though I got it right both times, its still a big pain in the arse.... Try going to Dimarzio for wire diagrams. Get the same diagram from the Ibanez site and then compare the 2.

this was posted in the past to help me... No Idea if its right but it may help

Ibanez -> Dimarzio
Red -> Red
Black -> Black
White -> Green
Green -> White

Red is (hot)...goes on pot
Green and bare goes on ground (pot)
Black and white goes on the coil-split location on the pot

Re: Ibanez to DiMarzio pickup conversion

+1 for another RG1820X owner!!!!

I had the same problem. I replaced my V7 & V8 with Dimarzio's AND it was all messed up because (as just posted above):
Ibanez -> Dimarzio
Red -> Red
Black -> Black
White -> Green
Green -> White

I rewired it and it sounds great.

I compared two different wiring schematics with similar pickup selections. One used the Ibanez pickups (2007 RGA 121H) and the other used Dimarzios (2007 RG2620E). Check it out for yourself at: http://www.ibanez.com/support/wiringdiagrams.aspx

Good luck

Re: Ibanez to DiMarzio pickup conversion

Yeah the 1820x is sweet, i've been playing for about 12 years now or so and was using my dads old encore guitar. I decided enough was enough and used some of my student loan to buy the iba.

Cheers for helping out guys, I know it must be a pain in the backside to constantly get the same questions over and over again Maybe someone should make a sticky with all these questions?

I came to the same conclusion about switching white and green wires after I posted the thread, it gave me links other threads with the exact problem and I found a diagram there! Its always good to get validation
though.

That 2620 wiring diagram is exactly how I want my pickup configuration (like the new ebmm's), the problem is though it uses one of those dimarzio switches and not a normal 3-position lever switch and I didnt want to start drilling. Though I guess with 1820x you get those options (position 1,3 and 5 I think) and 2 more... even if I am never gonna use them!

I just put a DSonic in my 7621 and the dimarzio new 7 that I took out was wired exactly like these guys said. I didnt have to change anything to put the new one in.

Vision, doesn't the 7621 already have Dimarzio Blaze's in it?
