If you could only have one......!!!!!!!

If you could only have one set of pickups what would they be and why? I'd choose a Breed in the bridge and a Paf Joe in the neck.

Versitile enough to play everything, good pick response for instrumental/prog music (which I like), and they cut through and still clean up nice. Bass is tight and not flabby, which I hate.

A set of Joe Barden Telecaster pickups - being a huge Danny Gatton fan - but they'd probably look a bit odd in the instrument I think you have in mind......

(if you can still get it, Gatton's "Cruisin' Deuces" is a fantastic album of faultless guitar playing - well worth a listen)

Mo' Joe and Paf-Joe. I just put this combo in my RGA 121H a few days ago.

Old Gibson PAFs are very unpredictable, as you can imagine handwound pickups would be without any real quality control. If you get a really good set, they'd sound as good as the Fralins.

or as good as a set of Burstbuckers.......

I don't think much of new Gibson guitars, but their good pickups are REALLY good!

But which Burstbuckers do you buy then? The 1's, 2's, 3's, or Pro's? I love Gibson humbuckers; they are absolutely some of the very best pickups made. But, I'd still go with the Fralins if I actually had to take money out of pocket to get them. Same price as the Fralins, and you can talk to Lindy to the phone pretty easily to make sure you get exactly what you want.
