i switch over to emgs for awhile . I liked the clarity and compression , they cut well , but they lacked dynamics and the feel of passive . the cleans sucked too . emgs are sort of a one trick pony IMO , they do what they do well it is just they dont do much else .

i didn't like lane's tone at all in that little clip , it is my opionion . The other dude was cool , still not my style but i liked the tone he had better then lane's .

I don't think that guys tone had really that much to do with the EMGs, more amp settings. I've EMGs sing in many different styles, and that was just from the one guitar player, my old guitar teacher. Amazing player and composer, and he knew tone to boot.

What people don't realize is that the more powerful a pickup is the less it distorts and the more gain you need to make it distort. So it ends up this muddy mush.
