Info on DiMarzio®/IBZ pickups

DiMarzio®/IBZ pickups
"The DiMarzio®/IBZ pickups in the Ibanez RG2120 and RG2570EX are specifically designed and manufactured by DiMarzio® for Ibanez, and they are not available separately. Like all DiMarzio® pickups, they are made in our New York factory. Both neck and bridge pickups are high-output models. The neck pickup is fairly bright-sounding, similar to a Super 2™ (DP104). The bridge pickup is a little louder and warmer-sounding, and resembles a cross between the Steve Morse Bridge Model™ (DP200) and the Super Distortion® (DP100). The R1 single-coil is warmer-sounding than a typical vintage single-coil, and was designed to work well with the neck and bridge humbuckers when they are in split mode. It has a sound similar to that of the HS-2™ in split-coil mode."

This is what it says on the DiMarzio site. I think they are perfect in my RG2620QM. This post is for info only. Thanks for reading : )

Really? Perfect for my set up anyway. EMG can be nice too. I am kind of a newbie on DiMarzio, but the sound from Dim/IBZ is great.

i'm not really an EMG guy, i would classify myself as a Duncan guy. but i wanted to try EMG's in my rg2550. the Dim/IBZ's just had no soul, were flat and fairly weak.

Mmm, Duncans do rock, but not as hard as Bareknuckles.

Heh, unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to try a bareknuckle, well at least not in the face, lol... pup what would you say is an equivalent with regards to output/gain to an SD distortion?

Peace, rock on

Nelson

Re: Info on DiMarzio®/IBZ pickups

Different models, different sounds. I think you can find some samples if you look around the website. They have all the info you want on there; resonant peak, dc resistance, magnet type.

I can't compare them to any other pickups, I haven't found anything else that's similar. That being said, I haven't tried many pickups. What I can say is that my ones, Miracle Man set, are the loudest pups I've ever played. The tele I've put them in makes my amp break up at way lower volumes than my other guitars, but it sounds good. It's a solid, organic, harmonically rich sound, with good treble bite in the bridge and the same with a bit more warmth and lower mids/bass in the neck. I think they have a very slight natural scooped sound, but they still have a good strong voice with enough clarity. I also recently put 13s on the tele and tuned it down to B standard, and these pups can handle the lower range just fine, just have to back off the gain a tiny bit (which you do anyway with lower tunings, right?).

No, I don't work for them either.

meh, they're better than the Dim/IBZ's. they're punchy and bright, which was a nice change from the lifeless stock pups.

you guys who are complacent with the stock dimarzio/IBZ need to get some "real" dimarzios. stick a tone zone or something in the bridge and a paf pro or whatever in the neck and notice the massive difference.

Well,i hear you. The taste is from person to person. Perhaps EMGs not famous for "soul". My Prestige with Dim/IBZ (first DiMarzios i ever played) is a metal monster - hahaha. They will stay. I to like Duncans, by the way. Cheers,

"massive difference" - is it really? Tried a couple of RGs with various pick ups. They all sounded good, and the DiM/IBZ was in no way inferior. A matter of taste i suppose.

I am curious: where is the "massive difference"? Output? I am used to Duncans but have discovered DiMarzio now. I like it!

no, output is a completely different thing. the dimarzio/ibz's aren't bad at all, they're just really...average. they don't really have a quality, they seem to be designed to cover a different range of styles where as the other dimarzios tailor to different sounds etc. so a tone zone, paf pro, air norton, X2N, whatever, they all have different characteristics which suite different styles and that's why i changed. my tone zone is far better for heavy rock/metal/shred than the stock bridge one on my rg2550z.
