get the same switch as the JPM model, take out the single coil and then re-wire .

I personally would leave the five way in, and have ....

1-bridge
2-bridge split
3-bridge and neck
4-neck split
5-neck

or something of the sort.

not really positive if the stock RG550 selector allows these pickups configurations. i had to replace mine with a superior one to have 2 hums splitting on positions 2 and 4.

you're right, it won't. to do the JPM you'd want a 3-way blade switch, or to do the two humbucker combinations listed above you'd need a 24 pole switch.

Yes, I've done it. I use a "Megaswitch P" from Stew Mac. It gives you either humbucker at positions 1 & 5, a coil from each in parallel at 2 & 4 and in the middle a coil from each but in series. All humbucking configurations.

Or you can buy a Super Switch and try every combination there is . . .

Takes time (some brains) and patience to figure out every way to wire it, but it's fun.

I have my RG 520 wired for;

Pos. 1; Bridge, full humbucker
Pos. 2; Bridge side coils both pups (nice twangy strat sound)
Pos. 3; Bridge side coil on neck (true single coil, well, sort of)
Pos. 4; Neck side coils on both pups (nice twangy strat sound)
Pos. 5; Neck, full humbucker

I won't go into all the combinations I tried before I came to keep that one, too many to list (and some too STUPID to list . . . how about both humbuckers with all coils "out of phase???" YUCK! :-D)
