Is something wrong?

Ok well I recently got a Fernandes Sustainer FSK401 installed in my H-S-H style pickup guitar, well I decided to have the Custom FGI bridge pickup put in and my EVO taken out because I hear the FGI works better with the sustainer. Well I don't know if something was wired backwards or what but when I play with my sustainer off and on the bridge position it sounds like a single coil neck pickup, but when I switch to use the sustainer as a pickup (without being on) it sounds like a good bridge pickup. Now im thinking the guy wired them wrong so the bride selection on the 5-way is the neck and vice versa. I have also heard the sustainer sounds bad as a neck pickup by itself, but by the sounds from what im hearing, it makes one hell of a rock pickup!

You need to find youself a new Tech. Whoever your taking it too knows squat about guitars. Learn to do this stuff yourself.

How can I make sure? do you have a wiring diagram I can look at.

and

When you have the sustainer on is the sound you hear the bridge pickup?, this is what Im at

Bridge position of selector switch - Sounds like a single coil neck
Neck position - Sounds like a nice bridge pickup
Neck and middle together - sounds quiet and trebly
Bridge and middle - Sounds like stevie ray vaughan glassy tone

Re: Is something wrong?

On blade style switches, the bridge position is selected when the switch is contacting the connection facing towards the neck. And the neck pick-up is contacted when the switch contacts the body end of the switch.

Lots of amateur techs and budding modders get that wrong and assume that they should wire it up so the bridge pups leads are at the bridge end of the switch. That is WRONG and will give you the exact situation you describe here. Your pick-up has been wired perfectly functionally, but the wrong terminals on the blade switch have been used and hence it is functioning backwards.

You can leave it the way it is and suffer no ill effects, you just have to remember that all the pick-up selections are now flipped. If you really want to fix is, either take it to a different tech and explain the problem, or if you are handy with a soldering iron, take the back off, locate the blade switch, and de solder the existing connections, then put them back on in the opposite order. Either of those will solve the problem.

Re: Is something wrong?

I contaced Bruce Martinelli (instant feedback from this guy) at aampselectricguitarstore and he gave me an email to a guy he knows at Fernandesguitars so I can work something out under warrantee, If I get the part and everything, Im definetly going to my other tech. The only reason I went to the one I did is because he has tools for routing.
