Is the AT1 a Breed?

I was told be someone who really should know, that the AT1 bridge pickup in the Timmons AT300 is in fact a Breed. But I think it's wired in series. Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I think I read that the AT1 is run as 2 single coils rather than a humbucker. I assume this could be done with the Breed. I was going to get the AT300. But decided to put an AT1/breed and a Cruiser in my 2620. Anyone got a connection with someone who can confirm this?

Thanks, Darin

Re: Is the AT1 a Breed?

i don't think so. dimarzio says that the closest pickup to what is in the at300 is a breed, but it is not the same. both bridge humbuckers in the at100 and at300 are custom humbuckers made to andy's specifications and unavailable for mass production (much like the bridge humbucker in the ernie ball axis models). i would say that the at1 is less hot than a breed as andy is the type of player who lets his rig drive the distortion instead of the pickup.

Standard wiring would be series, so, if you think its a Breed wired in parallel, you might be on to something, considering its a lil less hot than a stock breed

i had a breed and i had a timmons bucker , not the same . i didn't wire the breed in series so that *may* get you closer to the timmons bucker but the timmons bucker was less compressed, more open and basically timmon's tone in a box.

i dont really know how to explain the differences .

Re: Is the AT1 a Breed?

the AT1 is a Breed with a slight eq change and a little less hot.

I would suggest buying an AT1 of evilbay or something if you're interested in one, like j.arledge said, it does have better dynamics and a more open tone.

but if you just wanna get close buy a Breed, they are still great pickups.

Just wondering, how do you know. The guy that told me they are the same is a friend that owns a music store and I'm pretty sure was told by Dimarzio. But it's a "well kept secret".

I've always loved Andy's tone. Has anyone heard the Breeds/AT1's in an alder body? If so, how do they sound?

People, wiring it in series is the standard, normal way to wire a humbucker...

Re: Is the AT1 a Breed?

if you really want to know just ask andy. may take him awhile to reply as he is in china, but he usually pops in at his messageboard and answers questions. and lol to it being a 'well kept secret'. anyone who knows andy knows that he's extremely open to talking about his equipment and his set-up.
