Is the DSonic what I'm looking for?

I recently bought an S540 with the QM pickups in it, but they don't seem to have enough output for me. There's just not enough saturation through my Mark IV to me, and there doesn't to seem to be much punch to them.

I have a Bill Lawrence L500XL in my other S540, and I really like that pickup. However I don't want two guitars that sound almost identical. I want something darker sounding than the L500XL, and that has high output and that thump for palm muting metal riffs.

I looked at the DSonic, and it seems to be kind of what I'm looking for, but I don't have anyway to try before I buy... I'm also not afraid of looking at other manufacturers if anyone has any suggestions.

Cheers!

D-sonic's balanced though more on the bassy side; not dark.
It could be a D-activator X you're looking for

I have a D-Sonic in my RG. It's like what judasbane said, bassier but not dark or overly thick. It's not like a Tone Zone or breed. I'd say it's fat and has a velvet like growl about it. It has good highs but it's definately shaped for mid-low frequencies. It produces tight palm muting and great articulation in alternate picking. It's high output but still subtle enough to play with light gain in a classic rock clean sense. This is with the bar facing toward the neck, like Petrucci uses it. It does allow for great single note passages without sounding thin and still having enough togetherness to sound great on chords. IMHO it's a great pickup for anyone who wants a mildly-dark/warm yet tight sound and plays rock/metal.

The other guitarist in my band has a Nuno sig with a L500XL, it's much brighter and has more attack in the high register when compared to the D-Sonic.
