Is there a way to...

...change the color of pickup pole pieces? The Carvin poles are adjustable and I assume screw all the way out (never tried) but I wouldn't know where to get replacements. It's a small and mostly unimportant thing but if I could change them to gold or chrome instead of black without too much trouble I'd like to.

you might be able to change them for some Dimarzio ones, those are silver or chrome or whatever. Not 100% sure though.

You can. You can even order DiMarzios with gold or black pole pieces. Not on every model, but it's possible on some.

Re: Is there a way to...

So the difficult part would be actually finding the parts I guess. Oh well, I'm really not worried about it. The guitar is still being built so I don't even know if I'm going to like the Carvin pickups or not. I've heard both good and bad about them.

Re: Is there a way to...

This is going to be a silly question I think. But does the pole colour/plating matter tonally?

Re: Is there a way to...

I guess technically everything matters tonally to some degree but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna laugh at the person that insists one color sounds better than another color. My question is strictly for cosmetic reasons. White guitar, gold hardware, birdseye board, creme pickups... that have black poles. I have a feeling they're gonna stick out like a sore thumb. Not a big deal, just something I'd change if it can easily be done. It may be irrelevant if it turns out I don't like the stock Carvin pickups.

Oh, btw, Eric was selling some gold pole-d Dimarzios in the buy/sell section here... you can custom order from him methinks.

You know, abt that pole colour thing? I have a friend who insists that in order of bright to dark, Gold, Chrome, Black... or something. You know how stuff like that tends to unrail those who cannot-hear-but-will-seek tone nerds? Like me? :P
