I've got some Noise issues.

Hey, I have a nice 1992 Ibanez RG550DX that I love dearly and its my right hand #1 geetar.

I put Dimarzios in it, A F-Spaced PAF pro in the bridge, a PAF pro in the neck, and a HS-2 wired for single coil mode in the middle.

Tones are quiet on 1 (Bridge Hum) and 5 (Neck Hum) and sound normal and beautiful.

Position 2, 3, and 4 are all noisy. 3 is the absolute noisiest, but 2 and 4 aren't far behind.

Positions 2 and 4 seem to have the 60 cycle hum. How is this possible? Is this normal for the coil-tapped HS-2?

What are my options for quieting those positions down? (I use 1,2,4, and 5 alot, pretty equally)

Should I get a REAL middle single coil? I need it to be the same Blue Dimarzio color to match my others, and DiMarzio doesn't make a standard sounding strat pickup in colors, just the basic bland colors.

Do the pickup covers work on all the pickups? can they be bought individually?

Thanks!

Hey Gex, I think it's pretty normal to get noise in a single coil and as you say the neck and bridge are ok, then this confirms it really. But if you wish to experiment with different single coils, you'll be glad to know that you can actually change the colours of single coils, as the covers come off and you can get any colour cover you want. I've had reds, greens and blues! And ofcourse the pinks that the Jems have!

Sorry Gex, but that sounds about normal for single coils. My Dimarzio Blue Velvet probably are the lowest that I have, but still quite audible. Even the hallowed jem single is pretty noisy. And yes pickup covers are easy to get.
