Question

jem pickup wiring HELP!!!

i want to replace the middle single with a fast track 2 and i see the wiring says to solder the black and white together. why are the black and white on the evo's soldered together and then soldered to the switch? is this to seperate the coils in the 2 and 4 position and if so if i disconect them will i have the full bridge and middle when in 4 position or full neck and middle in 2 position?

Re: jem pickup wiring HELP!!!

The Evo's have the black and white wires soldered on the backside of the switch to split the coils of the humbuckers in positions 2 and 4. If you remove the black & white wires and just solder them together, you essentially get full neck and full bridge humbuckers along with the middle pickup in positions 2 and 4.

I actually came up with a screwed up wiring design that allowed me to get the full humbuckers in position 2 and 4 as well as being able to select the outside coil or inside coil of the humbuckers for position 2 and 4. Now I just wish I remember where I put my diagram. Ok.. now I'm just going off topic.

Question

Re: jem pickup wiring HELP!!!

got another question for ya, i was considering replacing the middle with a fast track 2 because of the volume loss at 2 and 4. if i just disconnect the white and black wires of the neck and bridge from back of switch will i still have a volume loss at 2 and 4 or will the humbuckers being full on compensate for the single. i really don't use the middle select alone, only in combination with neck or bridge. your insight is much appreciated i assure you!
thank,,,,,,,,,dan

Re: jem pickup wiring HELP!!!

You shouldn't get the volume loss in positions 2 and 4 if you have the full humbuckers running together with the FS-2. The volume loss occurs in positions 2 and 4 previously as the humbucker coils were split and you essentially get half the output(not quite but close) as only one of the two coils are working.

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Budd
