JEM7VWH and Breeds?

Since I find the Breed quite an attractive pickup for a replacement in a basswood JEM with PAF Pro's, I'm wonder exactly what a more middy/high wood like alder would do with it? Has anyone actually tried this or would it be a complete mess? Cheers.

Re: JEM7VWH and Breeds?

I think it would sound good...
To me, Alder has more highs than basswood...
more than that, i think it has more punch and a more immediate attack as well... Going by these it should go well with the Breed which is a warm pickup or "dark", as others say.

The neck thickness and fretboard wood will also have an effect on the overall tone. If your VWH has an ebony fretboard, that would complement the breed as well.

i have a Breed in a mahogany bodied S with a floating edge and a rosewood board, and sometimes i'm looking for more "punch" from it... although i'm quite happy with the overall tone coz the Breed "fills out" the sound nicely in that guitar.

I think it would be pretty good. It's still a "Vai" pickup

Well, I've seen people use Evo's on basswood guitars, like the 555, and said that they sounded beautifully.

I don't see why the reverse wouldn't be true, as well.

+1 and take it from me Evo's do sound good in basswood. (like Flo or my guitar lol) and I can imagine breeds would be nice in alder

Re: JEM7VWH and Breeds?

I have a 2006 7Vwh which has the letters "BREED" stamped in vlack along side of the bottom side of the guitar where the strap post is located. The paint was not heavy enough to cover the lettering completely... Playing it, then playing my 2005 7Vwh leaves a world of difference between the output of the 2 guitars. The 2006 is on Evilbay right now w a scallpoed fretboard as I don't care for the p/u's not the scalloped fretboard job. I bought it for $1075 to my front door and it was close to mint short of the board work. Does anybody know of the Breed p/u's being in the Signature Jem and stamped like this before; Rich?
