Hey Folks,
Just wanted to post regarding some single coils I just bought, might help some people out. I put a complete set of Lindy Fralin Vintage Hots with a bass plate on the
bridge pickup, wired up with a blender pot. The blender pot allows me to dial in either the bridge or neck pickup when in positions 1 or 5. Trust me, this is very cool. The bass plate boosts the bridge pickup slightly and smooths out the highs and lows making it more tasteful. The middle tone control is now a global control.
Now I'm not a vintage freak or anything so I can't compare these pickups to Fender original 54s or something like that, who cares. I do know that I am blown away with how great this guitar sounds. I haven't run it through my marshall yet, but auditioned it through my POD Pro last night and I simply couldn't make it sound bad.
These are not overly hot, just slightly hotter than stock. They are tons quieter but still exhibit some 60 cycle hum...hey they're single coils. They are extremely bell like, chimey and glassy...but when played hard they bark. The low end is just huge on the neck pickup and the high end is just like glass. The "ice pick in the ear" shrill high end is nowhere to be found on any setting. The best thing about the set up is that I can be in the
bridge position and dial in a little neck pickup via the blender pot and it just warms it up beautifully. It sounds great with some gain.
I did a lot of reseach on finding the right single coils and these were what I was looking for. Not sure how many of you guys have strats, but these are worth a look.
