Les Paul Pickups
I've got a
Gibson Les Paul Classic
and I'm not liking the neck pickup. The bridge pickup is ok, but the neck pickup sounds very muddy and horrid, unlike the description on the Gibson website.
What do you guys reccomend? I was thinking of the pickups Slash uses, Seymour Duncan Alnico II, but on thier website they say they aren't high output, unlike what I thought, judging by slashes tone.
Been thinking of a
DiMarzio Air Norton
too. Any ideas?

Re: Les Paul Pickups
You don't want a high output
neck pickup
, especially if you don't want mud. The Air Norton isn't a high
output pickup
, more medium out put. The Alnico II is a good choice, the 59 would also be a good one. From DiMarzio, the PAF Joe would be a good choice, or maybe an Air Classic if you want more of a vintage look to match the LP.

Re: Les Paul Pickups
the alnico 2 is a superb pickup for the neck. keep in mind the output of a neck pickup is always louder than that of the same pickup in the bridge. i personally have an alnico 2 and it is my favorite duncan neck pickup...smooth and alive. the
les paul classic
pickups aren't really that great anyway, like most gibson pickups. if i were you i would swap for an alnico 2 and a jb. killer tone for any
les paul
.

Re: Les Paul Pickups
If you want high output, I have a Distortion neck and bridge set in my Edwards
John Sykes
LP, it's a sweet sounding set but not at all subtle. Nice tone but definitely high output. The
neck pup
sounds good, and I can get nice clean tones out of it. Of course, that neck pickup is about as hot as alot of bridge models and I have it set pretty low to keep it tamed down. I really like the Distortion bridge in the LP.

Re: Les Paul Pickups
I tried to set mine down but it was still too much. I think I should use a lower output in the neck as i usually do when i DiMarzio my
Ibanez guitars
, such as the
air norton
and tone zone combination.
