Microswitches????

Here's my dilemma! I have a 540 Radius I want to have custom work done on, but I have three holes for microswitches. Now I plan to have one used as a three way pickup selector, but the other two I have no idea. Well I do know I don't want them to turn pickups on and off, but other than that what should I do??

Sustainer?? Piezo?? ..................................????

coil taps, phase switching, sustainer could work, im a fan of coil taps myself though. OTOH, if you want to do some routing piezos ROCK

True but I could use the vol and tone knobs for the coil tap. Hate to ask a stupid question, but what do you mean by phase switching?

Phase switching puts pickups electrically in or out of phase with one another. It can cancel out certain frequencies, giving you more tones.

Other ideas: You could put in an active preamp for an on-board volume boost. You could also put in one of my favourite pickup switching schemes, which is a series/split/parallel switch for the humbucker.

I say go for sustainer and piezos. Infini-coustic anyone?

On a more serious note, I'm getting hooked on the sustainer lately and am getting major G.A.S. for one (esp. if it was a 7-stringer). I say go for one, or some really messed up pickup selector options. Or, y'know, LED inlays with on/off switch??

If your going to have something other than a translucent finish done why not just seal them up and make them go away?

Thats what I was thinking Brian, but I'm worried it'll show thru on the new finish? Plus I'm planning on having the middle single coil filled so I'm left with only two pickups! See here is my plan:

get rid of the microswitches, Get rid of the middle single coil, make the neck joint aanj, sand the back of the neck, then repaint blue holofoil(holoflake, sparkle i'm confused what's the difference), get a matching headstock, then have the ibanez logo redone in chrome or mirror, and get all new chrome hardware!

Been there/done that and worried plus had to start over on a lot of fills early on till I found "Loctite repair for wood". The stuff doesn't shrink and blends well on the surface (no micro cracks along the edge of a filled pickup cavity) so no finishing worries there.

One thing about the stuff though, since it is a two part just like a 5 minute epoxy paste it has a very fast setup time so mix only what you need cause your going to have a 3 minute window at best before it begins to set up hard.

Just take the little sweegie thats provided and mix equal parts on a piece of scrap paper or cardboard.

I can do custom orders now, what I won't do is advertise finishing for bodys for a very long time. That I'll deal with on a one on one basis.

I still have some issue's that need resolving from the recent past out there and they will take priority over anything else in the shop as they come back in, but I wouldn't hold my breath if you were waiting for me to advertise finishing services such as custom paint jobs on Universal Jems other than head stock refinishing which I do well and actually make money on.

I cut my teeth so to speak over the past couple of years and as my skills improved I raised price's but still kept them way below pro price's to get the business. That practice has fallen to the wayside because of many reason's.

I have never claimed to be a professional refinisher to begin with and the truth of the matter I have learned is it's fact that everyone expects a PRS finish even though they will only pay a Strat price. I have had valid complaints come back to me which I delt with as soon as I possibly could but it still damaged my reputation which doesnt help business at all.

I've heard complaints about others work as well, such as GMW Guitarworks which is a professional refinisher. Stuff like the guitar took way longer than expected (sometimes months) to get back to me and the front looks nice but they should have spend more time on the back it doesnt look like they even sanded it smooth beyond a quicky.

If thats what the pro's are dishing out and taking in it's no wonder I end up pulling out my hair and loosing sleep over what I've been working on at half their price.

I'll always stick with using lacquer even if it's only for the topcoat, and one problem (with my own talents) usually ends up snowballing into me starting over on the finish, causing delays and making my original e-mail back stating (oh it should be shipped out this week) look real bad, so my customer service skills blow when it comes to keeping promisses. Sorry but I have to face the facts. Oh and yes it takes my hourly wage way down below a newbie flippin burgers at McDonalds

Never and I mean NEVER again will I use or take on a partner to do the work. I'm still in the hole over that BS and of course passing on somebody else's word only to have it turn into BS didn't do my reputation any good.

If you want me to do the mod's I'll do them for next to nothing just to make a tutorial on it for Project Guitar. But if you want me to do the refinishing I can only say I'll do it but expect it to take forever ( just stating the facts bro). Otherwise I would be more than happy to ship it on to anyone you like for the paint job

I should state that one day (a long time from now) I will resort to advertising refinishing again on Universal Jems when I become more confident in my finishing skills and turn around time, but when I do expect to pay top dollar since I will have zero tolerance for imperfections at that point meaning PRS and Rich would be proud to have one of my finishes hanging on their wall.

Just like any guitar player an artist is usually his own worse critic and I'm no exception.........
