More pickup talk!

Guitar: RG550MXX
Body Wood: Basswood
Neck Wood: Maple
Fretboard Wood: Maple
Trem: Edge
Amp: Hi Gain
Style: 80s Glam Metal (RATT), Death Metal (Necrophagist), 60s Pop (Beatles)
Looking For: More harmonics, clearer articulation, louder squeals!

Right now I have a Super 3 in there, but it feels a little muddy when I have the gain up. I want a higher ranged pickup that still has a bit of mids to it, as I like to be heard in the mix, so a Steve's Special is out of the question. I'm looking at the Super 2, the D Activator, and KINDA (DiMarzio says they are kinda bassy) the Tone Zone. I like the Super 2 because according to the DiMarzio site, it's almost exactly what I'm looking for. I like the D Activator because according to DiMarzio they are very Dynamic and I like that a lot, as although I only play a few styles of music, metal and pop, they are very far apart in their sounds so I need the guitar to be flexible. Any suggestions?

Fred or Mo'Joe are great. nice and tight, very versitile and plenty of mids for the mix.

I'd say Norton for the 80's spandex thing, or The Tone Zone. The Duncan JB was huge in the 80's but I've never had one in any of my guitars so I really shouldn't speak for it.

I was looking at the Norton, but I don't know if it's for my heavier stuff. I'm also looking at the D Sonic and Mo'Joe...

Norton is nastier and heavier than Mo'Joe, it is in the borderline between DiMarzio Middle and Hight output pickups

If you get a medium output pickup like the Norton with a Hi Gain amp it should do metal fine. I love the Evo2 myself.

Really? Does anyone know of any guitars that have one that I could try it out in? What about the Ernie Ball Van Halen models? Do they have them in them?

Re: More pickup talk!

So I'm thinking of Getting a D Activator Neck to put in the bridge, according to DiMarzio it's just what I want in terms of the EQ, and it is more tame than the bridge model so I will balance better with the Air Norton in the neck. Anyone tried this yet?

I'm going to keep the Super 3 for at least a week after I install the new pickup just in case I like it better than whatever I put it, but after I am comfortable with the new pup, I'll gladly sell it to anyone who wants it.
