Re: More warm pickups to a Ibanez RG550

Everything's compatible. The S1 and S2 are pretty similar. And the S3 is just a reverse wound/reverse polarity version of the S2. They're all pretty clean and bright sounding. They aren't the best pickups in the world, but I like them as middle single coils.

This is true indeedly. Be brave and explore!!! Some "neck" pups sound great in the bridge. E.g. A Breed neck in bridge is a Bassier, Mid-dier PAF Pro.

Re: More warm pickups to a Ibanez RG550

Have you tried rolling back your tone control ? I know on some amps the stock pick-ups on my RG770 come across as being a bit "edgy" or "sharp" as you call it. Tweaking the tone control always takes care of it for me. What I like about using the tone control to roll-off some of the edge is its there waiting for me if I need it.

The Evo 2 is worth a shot in the bridge too, I wasn't a big fan of the originals, but I really like the 2. It's tamed down just enough.

Re: More warm pickups to a Ibanez RG550

Evo 2 is great for the bridge, but the neck, i'd probably reccomend an airnorton over the PAF pro in that it sounds much warmer to me, none of that tight-end-click with it (which can be a good or bad thing depending on your preference i suppose). For me, they are both great, with the Air Norton being considerably fatter in tone.

Agreed, the AN is warmer than the PAF Pro, depends on what you are looking for. Personally I prefer the PP, the AN is too warm for the sound I want from the neck. Chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry.

the Evolution is a bright pickup. it has crazy harmonics, cuts very well, tight bass, midrangey sound. on my JEM7vwh which has a rosewood board, it sounds bright, what more with a maple fretboard. in my experience, a dark sounding pickup works best on a 550. I use a tone zone on my 550 it balances out well enough coz the tz is a dark soundin pickup to begin with.

PAF joe to my ears sounds like a warmer version of the PAF pro. has about the same output but more midrange. I personally prefer the PAFpro.

+1 on that.

PAF pros rock. JB is killer, Hot Rails are awesome, and 59 pairs very well.

All of these combinations work great.

I have a 570 with a TZ/FS1/AN that really screams, though, so you might want to look into that as well.

Re: More warm pickups to a Ibanez RG550

Do you really think I should change the pickups? I will note difference? I have a Epiphone Les Paul, I know that I will never get that tone with an RG but will I get close with the DiMarzio or Seymour Duncan pickups?

I always thought that the maple fret was more bright than the rosewood ...

IMO the V7/V8 sound great, i just roll the tone knob off or take some mid off, if you got presence on your amp then turn it down a touch and use your tone controls more.

Re: More warm pickups to a Ibanez RG550

You dont say what amp youre using, if its a fender then naturally you are going to get a harsh tone, a marshall youll get a mid-range/bassy tone. Alot will boil down to your amp and effects.

My amp is Valvetronix AD60VT a modeling amp with a valve in the pre-amp. It's quite warm and simulates very well valve amps, better than the line6 flextone.

Re: More warm pickups to a Ibanez RG550

Mmmm, aint keen on modeling amps, V7/V8 pups on my 1550 are sweet, using a 50watt marshall, wouldnt change em at all.
