Most versatile set of DiMarzios?

My step-father is looking to upgrade the infinity pickups in his basswood RG470.

He enjoys playing quite a wide variety of styles including blues, rock, hard rock and enjoys very high gain and distorted sounds (although he's not really into metal) as much as nice cleans.

So therefore my questions is, what set of Dimarzios would you recommend as a good all-round versatile choice?

Thanks

I use the Humbucker from Hell in neck and Blue Velvet in the middle, which sounds great with the Bare Knuckles Warpig in the bridge...most versatile.

Re: Most versatile set of DiMarzios?

definitely a Paf Pro somewhere in the setup; dual Paf Pro's work wonders too. Maybe a Super 2 and/or a Super 3 can work too, they're not in the hi-gain metal department but I'd assume they'd work for rock (listen to Def Leppard).
Morpheus: how's that Warpig/HFH combo? is there a drastic volume difference? wanted to custom order a Warpig or even a Nailbomb to match with an Air Norton but wasn't sure if the output levels for this combo would balance.

Re: Most versatile set of DiMarzios?

There was, (and I liked it), but I had to replace the volumepotmeter, cuz there was noise and silence in both ends due to the tremarm often striking the replacement skullknob
I also replaced the pickupswitch, cuz I had spilled solder in it, and I noticed that the cablestripper had been mean to the red Warpigwire, so I made it right, but the result was somewhat surprising - the whole set seemed to calibrate itself, they are all very equal now!
Don't get me wrong, the Warpig is still teh boss, but it used to make that like, more clear
I used Radioshack rosin-core silver solder and wires you only find in like the finest Gibsons, but it's still a mystery to me how such polar opposite outputs can be such an excellent combination,(the HfH is 5.82k, the Warpig 22.55(the Blue Velvet 6.0), but that was never an issue, I liked the instant power of the Warpig, I just didn't know something was wrong(and I still don't know what it was), but now they seem like made for eachother, there obviously is more to output than resistance...seems like most of the Warpig's massive output goes to bass, it doesn't have that trebly curse of the bridgebucker - it looks really cool, too

Norton in the bridge, PAF in the neck, and a Crusier in the middle.

The Norton is what DiMarzio says is their, "most versatile pickup."

Maybe an Air Norton or Norton and an Area 61.

It's likely to be two PAF 36th anniversary (brudge & standard version) together.

I like the PAF Joe better than the Pro for the neck. Having both of them in similar guitars, i would say the Joe is clearer and the tone is nicer imo.

Re: Most versatile set of DiMarzios?

Thanks for your comments. It seems the PAF / PAF Pro and Norton are the most popular then.

He's currently looking at Swineshead pickups, possibly the xbucker in bridge and warthog in neck.

Does anyone hear have any experiences with Swineshead?

Thanks

I agree, this is a real jack of all trades set up. You can push it a little either way, with a fred in the bridge or a PAF Joe in the neck, but at the heart of it this is a really good alround starting point.
