Re: My SAS36 is getting new Pups
My mod is finally done and I've got some info that I hope is helpful to others. My final H-S-S config is a Seymour P-rail in the bridge a Dimarzio area 58 in the middle and an area 67 in the neck.
I intended to put the 58 in the neck but the leads came short so I put it in the middle and liked it. (My assumption after receiveing the 67 is M-fr**d sent me a used p-up.) The PROBLEM I experiences was that the Area p-up design isn't compatible with the stock neck single coil. so whenever I chose position 2 (neck & Middle) I got a very muted sound almost no output at all. As an isolated middle it sounded great but because of the problem I considered taking it out and using something else completely.
Well I shelved the project for a until last nite when I installed a new Dimarzio Area 67 in the neck and all's well. The wire leads were plenty long enough to wire it as a neck p-up and the position 2 issue is gone. I like the 67 sound for the Hendrix tone and the 58 for that Quacky strat sound. I'm still getting used to the p-rail as I prefer the single coil sound so I'm typically splitting it. I'm happy for now and looking forward to exploring my new combo. Hopefully, this helps others.
