Breeds, which you mentioned, are a good option. You might want to try a Super Distortion or a Tone Zone, both of which are bass heavy. I am curious as to how they would sound in Alder.
I find that Duncan JB's are pretty bright.... I have them in a bird's-eyed maple (which is a brighter tonewood than alder)
