Need help picking a pickup for alder guit.

I have an alder Jackson that sounds pretty good but had EMG's and I really don't like EMG's... I'm looking for something that clips a bit of the brighter tendencies of the alder. I'm thinking a Breed. Any ideas?

FYI I'm playing through a JSX.

Breeds are a good choice for a high power Paf tone. Also, if you want a bit more grind a Super Distortion is a warmer ceramic pickup.

Actually I dropped a JB and a Jazz I had laying around in it and it sounds pretty good. I'm a little shaky on how to properly ground the switch so I'm having issues.

^^^ Awesome pickup. I have one, it's intense, but in a good way.

Have you ever considered doing the 18v mod for your EMG's? Adding another 9v in series to your existing 9v really makes a difference in tone for your guitar.

I did that and while it sounded different it wasn't me.

Re: Need help picking a pickup for alder guit.

Breeds, which you mentioned, are a good option. You might want to try a Super Distortion or a Tone Zone, both of which are bass heavy. I am curious as to how they would sound in Alder.

I find that Duncan JB's are pretty bright.... I have them in a bird's-eyed maple (which is a brighter tonewood than alder) Lado Earth (like the one Adrian Smith from Maiden used in 1984/85), and I am constantly reaching for the bass knob on my amp.

Funny how you mentioned the switch grounding... a loud buzz goes through my amp anytime I flip the switch. Is this Duncan JB trademark? Just kidding. LOL.

I had one... Reminded me of an EMG. I'm into more organic and less output.
