Need Help Picking a Pup.

I play metal, and i was wondering about changing the pickups in my Guitar. My guitar is a GRG170DX, a real low-end MII. But i want to take it to the philippines with me on my vacation. I might do a little project with my cousin's band. Now lets get going to business, i was wondering if any of these pickups would suit my needs, Super Distortion, X2N, Super 3, Breeds, or D-Sonic. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks.

It depends on what kind of metal you play.

X2N - Extremely brutal pickup. Chuck from Death used one, if that tells you anything. I can't even overemphasize how mean these things are,

Super Distortion - Perfect for NWOBHM. Fast Eddie Clarke from Motorhead used it, as did pretty much all of Maiden's guitar players.

I couldn't tell you a whole lot about the others, though.

Sorry if ask any dumb questions, but would the X2N have that clarity for solos, or is it a really scooped pickup?

I have a Super D for sale if you're interested. Killer pup but it's sitting around my house with no home so I'm selling it.

It's not a dumb question.

The X2N is actually a lot more versatile than people give it credit for. It has great harmonics, awesome chunk, brutal distortion, tons of bite, and enough output to level a city block.

The only thing I'd warn you about before you buy the X2N, is that it will kill your sustain if it isn't properly adjusted. The string pull is so strong, that if it's set too close to the pickup, you can kiss your sustain goodbye.

Other than that, I'd definitely recommend it.

What kind of metal do you play?

Think thrash with Dream Theater, and some of the newer bands, but my roots are with older metal, not what they call "metal" today. I also found a good candidate to add, the deactivators, if they sell em.

IMO, you'd be well served with the X2N.

You could always go to DiMarzio's website and listen to the sound clips for all of their pickups as well.

Super 2 is one of my favorite Neck pickups and is hot enough to balance with the X2N

I'd go with a PAF Pro or Breed, myself.

But that's just my preference.

I think neither PAF Pro nor PAF Joe should balance very well with X2N, The Breed should bañance

I tried an older roadstar with an x2n bridge and dimarzio paf in the neck ad that thing was one of the most versatile guitars i've used.

keep us posted on what you choose.
