Need wiring help for 7420 modified

I have taken a 7420 and routed out a single coil middle pickup. I've refinished and everything and now I'm down to rewiring. I've tried using the diagrams for the original universe, but that has created something all messed up. Any help would be much appreciated.

Neck - Air Norton 7
Middle - Blaze 7 single coil
Bridge - D-Sonic 7 with the rail on top

I left the original 5 way switch that came with it. PLEASE help, I'm so confused.

The stock 5-way switch on a 7420 is specially designed for two humbucker guitars. It might look similar, but the various lugs aren't wired the same way as a standard switch. I'm not sure that Ibanez ever used that switch on an HSH guitar, so I don't know if there's much in the way of wiring diagrams out there for that configuration, or if it can even work correctly. I hate to make recommendations based on a lack of knowledge, but I'm thinking you ought to just pick up a standard 5-way switch and use that instead.

Yeap.... get a new 5 way switch for a 3 pickup guitar. The one you have won't do...

Re: Need wiring help for 7420 modified

Well, I got it wired up and it does have a lot of versatility already. It just sounds like it blends the middle pickup with the others in the middle three positions. But it sounds pretty awesome already. Kinda like it is running itself in chorus already... awesome, but a bit strange.

I'll search around at home to see if I have another switch... I think I should have one that came off an RG550... I'll have to see if they are the same size or not... Maybe that'll work. I'll see if it really makes a difference and which one sounds more interesting overall.

Thanks gents!

The one from the 550 should do just fine...

Actually the one that came in it works great. I don't know how or why, but it works. I'm happy now!

Thanks all!
