New Petrucci signature DiMarzios?

Has anyone had a chance to try them yet?

the info is up on the site.

The Cruch Lab bridge pickup and the Liquifire neck pickup.

Re: New Petrucci signature DiMarzios?

talk about spank'n new... very nice! both come in 7 string variants as well!
So my understanding of the Crunch Lab is a louder D-sonic with less highs and meant to be installed with the bar facing the neck while the Liquifire is THE modified Air Norton that's in the EBMM's?
I think i'll be ordering a CL7 soon :P

Nope, the neck pickup is different to the one in the EBMM guitar. From DiMarzio: "Since the mid 1990s, John’s neck pickup sound has been based on either the standard Air Norton or the custom version in his Ernie Ball guitars. The LiquiFire has several significant differences. Its treble response is warmer and smoother while bass response is tighter and brighter. The total sound has a more focused voice."

Re: New Petrucci signature DiMarzios?

To me it's another way of selling the same stuff to newer customers.
I like dimarzios humbuckers so my choice is low, medium or high output.
Some will say hey but this model has more mids ,that one has more bass etc.
It doesn't matter cause we all have equalizers in our equipments so its equalization doesn't matter cause we all use our eqs.
I have 4 guitars with different dimarzio humbuckers models but all of them are high output.
Through my equipment they all sound the same because it doesn't matter their eq curves cause I always change it with my eq.
So what matters when buying a pup is if you want low, medium or high output.

They're the same as in all other DT albums.
Mesa tones.

Let's not forget that most pickups have a distinct "feel" to them, that thing that you just can't quantify. I think the note attack is probably the most recognizable "feel" factor. There's NO EQ that will change that.

that's quite true for this particular pickup, i didn't even notice he had changed pickups, and im a jp6 player too, sounds the same...

at least the difference(if any) is EQable, and i didn't notice any difference in his sound or attack in the latest albums and concerts...
imo

Well I could agree with you but in all records Petrucci's attack is the same no matter what pup he was using.
So some things are real ,some are myths to grab our money.
Probably all high gain pups have the same attack, all low pups have the same attack etc.
But we cannot tell there's a significant difference of Petrucci's attack through all DT records.

Yup no matter what equalization pups have guitarrists will always eq them with their equipments. That's why no matter what pup Petrucci is using,he always has the same tone.
If you saw DT alive you probably have noticed his tone is always the same no matter what pup .
I love evolution, with it I can get the same Petrucci's tone with a mark IV.
So if you already have a HIGH gain dimarzio, stay with it,don't waste your money while dimarzio is buying a new mansion LOL

And there's no external EQ that will drastically change a pickup tone either. Let's say that you have a DiMarzio Breed. Whatever you do to your rig, you won't be able to change the very soul of your guitar!

Re: New Petrucci signature DiMarzios?

I also think it's not THE pickup, just a modified Dsonic. Petrucci's tone has remained the same since he started using his Music Man signature.

But let's hope someone who loves experimenting with pickups (and has a lot of money) tries the Crunch lab and Liquifire and shares his experience here with us!!
