new pickup noisy, what did I do wrong

I just installed a dimarzio double whammy (new) in my rg550 bridge position and it very noisy and hummy, compared to my other ibanez' andthe other pickup in the guitar, I figure i must have made a mistake in the wiring, but i dont know where... I used this diagram http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...777wSwitch.jpg

Its not the high frequency nasaly buzz from grounding issues, it is a low pitch annoying buzz that all pickups seem to have, just its louder and more annoying.
please help me out, thanks

If the noise doesn't go away when you touch something metal on the guitar then have you wired it up so its just using one coil?? that might produce some noise.

When I touch some metal, some hum goes away (more high end hum), but the low end annoying buzz remains. Is this high end hum, that goes away when i touch metal, fixable as well?

Re: new pickup noisy, what did I do wrong

So I think I must have missed a step somewhere, I hope someone can help. So here is the origional wiring (http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h9...6CHSHB11L5.gif). The new pickup i put in has more wires to connect than the old one. So what I did was put the black and white wires on tab #8, the red wire on tab #3, and the green and ground on the volume pot. I'm pretty sure i put the pickup wires in the right places, and I just missed connecting something else that needs to be connected.

I'm not anywhere near my guitar so I'm not 100% sure, but I think RGs have a ground wire that is completely exposed(either that or grey) just look around so that you didn't "create" and extra ground loop with a wire from the volume pot. I've done this a few times and you get those exact results. Lots of hum, and when you touch the bridge it mostly goes away.

If you take a picture of your wiring I might be able to help you more. hope this can help you somewhat.

I think its a matter of mixing the dimarzio pickups with the ibanez pickups thats causing wiring difficulties, none of the diagrams appear to be compatible. Has anybody mixed dimarzio with ibanez, how did you do?

Mixing pickups shouldn't cause a problem, providing you do it right. I've also never heard of the 'double whammy' pickup. Where did you buy it from? Got any pics of the pickup or how you've wired it up?

Its a discontinued Dimarzio model, its nothing unique, same wiring as any paf pro or tonezone. and thats the thing, I am not sure how to do it right. I think I will make a jpeg of how i wired it in a min.

Re: new pickup noisy, what did I do wrong

Can the ground wires from each pickup all go to the same blob of solder on the back of the pot? or do they have to be separate?

I fixed the original problem now I have a grounding problem... Whenever i touch metal on the back of the pickguard or the trem claw, the humming stops... also if i touch the front of the pickup i just installed with my hand it buzzes like mad, but if i ground it by touching the trem claw first, it doesnt go crazy. I soldered all of the grounds. I just don't know what to do now.

Re: new pickup noisy, what did I do wrong

I was under the impression that the Dimarzio and Ibanez wiring is pretty much the same. If it has a buzz thats going away when you touch metal then check the solder joints for the earths.

If you set it to clean do you get the buzz your talking about?
Is it near any sources of interference such as computers, wireless phones or routers etc? If you have only touched the bridge pickup then I would de-solder it and follow the dimarzio instructions again and check your solder joints as you go.

Some humbuckers just don't cancel hum as well as others. It has something to do with the two coils being wound slightly differently I think.

Re: new pickup noisy, what did I do wrong

I took some pictures, I still haven't been able to figure out whats going on with the grounding, so I am hoping someone will spot something. Thanks
