New S Series Guitar * Needs * New Pickups

Just picked up my second Ibanez ever... the first being an artist from the '70s... and the pickups are awful. I've obviously got to take them out, but I'm not quite sure what I should put in there. I had a Dimarzio Super Distortion/Super 2 in a BC Rich Mockingbird that worked pretty well, but the S is Mahogany, so I'm not sure that it'll work out the same way. The S is pretty dark and muddy sounding (though I suppose that could be the pickups) so perhaps the SD/Super 2 could work well there. There's also the middle single to think about and what would match up there volumewise and tone wise.

So I play sort of a funky, fusiony sort of thing (think cleanish to low gain funky rhythm playing and smoothish mid gain melodic leads that occasionally need to get nasty) and I have a pretty bassy amp, so the pickups really need to add some sparkle and higher output pickups have worked best with my rig so far... Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I should also mention that I'm intrigued by active systems, but not sure how they'd work out for cleans...

Thanks!

For Duncans i'd check out the JB/59 or JB/Jazz combos, for DiMarzio's i'd think about an Evo2/Paf Pro combo, or maybe even D-Activator/Air Norton.

I hope you find something you like.

Rock on!

I put a PAF PRO in the neck of my S series and an X2N in the bridge. But i play mostly metal and punk.

The Breed and Evolution series are very nice for heavy guitars... I have a Mahogany S Series H-S-H and a Mahogany S Series H-H... I run the Evolution Neck, ISCV2 (Evolution Single Coil Mid), Evo2 Bridge in my H-S-H and I run the Breed Neck and Breed Bridge in my H-H.

Honestly it really depends what you want it to do and what style of music you play...
