New switch for X2N and tone knob removal

Hey I just got a DPDT switch for my new X2n and am going to wire my frankenstein RG for Dual-Tone.

I am thinking I dont want to drill another hole in the body, so I was wanting to remove the tone knob altogether and put the switch in its place.

I never use the tone knob anyway, and it would be a good place for the new switch.

Does anybody have any recommendations or advice on doing this?

Will removing the tone control affect the sound of my guitar?

Does anybody know of a link that might have a wiring diagram for this?

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Re: New switch for X2N and tone knob removal

I was playing without a tone pot for a while because I usually don't use it much and most of the time is maxed. I decided the tone was too harsh and bright without the tone pot in there and went back to using one. My suggestion is to get a concentric stacked pot. These mini stacked pots work well because they are low enough for the trem arm to clear. The CTS stacked pots are nice but they stick up too high and the knobs weight a ton. http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/e...l_minipots.htm down at the bottom of the page.

The tone pot does affect your tone, but you can easily replace it with a normal fixed resistance of the same value.

Re: New switch for X2N and tone knob removal

Thanks for your replies. At this time I am leaning towards frodos response. I really never use the tone knob and is always maxed out as well.
Plus I like the idea of not drilling another hole.

So, if I were to replace it with a normal fixed resistance of the same value, what exactly would that be???

Soldering in a 500ohm resistor inline somewhere???

Or is there another solution???

Thanks again for your time.

Hey wait -

I thought the stacked pot was something different.

Yeah that would work too, but would also require finding one and possibly either ordering one, which would take time.

If I just need a resistor, I could get one at work and have it done tonight.

Hmmm......

you should measure the actual resistance of the pot and get a resistor that matches.

Re: New switch for X2N and tone knob removal

Thanks for the help peeps.
I followed moonlights suggestion and ordered the concentric stacked pot.
Actually, I ordered two of them. One 250k, and one 500k.
Just in case I didnt like the tone with one of them.

if you decide to go with the fixed resistance value, here is the mod you have to do
