New to Dimarzios/New pick-ups RGT42DXFM
I want to replace the pick-ups in my RGt42DXFM's and I've never used Dimarzios before.I need alot of versatility,I play rock from the 60's through today, some blues, and some metal. For the bridge I was thinking;Norton,
Super Distortion
,or Steve's Special.For the neck;PAF Pro,Fred,or
Air Norton
.What do you all recomend?

Re: New to Dimarzios/New pick-ups RGT42DXFM
Those choices are pretty good right there.
I really like the new Mo' Joe for the bridge. It pairs well with the
PAF Joe
, or PAF Pro, in the neck.
Also, Air Norton is a great
neck pickup
.
Not a huge fan of the Steve's Special, though.
You are going to get a lot of suggestions on this one. I would just go with something, and then if you don't like them, send them back and swap them for something else.

Tone Zone
-Air Norton and Tone Zone-
PAF Pro
are two very common configs. It's hard to say what would suit you best though.

Re: New to Dimarzios/New pick-ups RGT42DXFM
I don't have very much experience with pickups, but I use the Steve's Special/Air Norton combo on my RGA121, and I'm quite happy with it, although I'd like to try out other pickups, too, especially bridge ones. I think it all boils down to preference, and the only way to find the perfect pickups is by trial and error.
Looking at your description, the Air Norton should cover your needs as far as the neck pickup is concerned. The Steve's Special is *very* different from the AN in sound and character - great for rhythm, chords, and is very clear even with high amounts of gain. It might not be the best pickup for leads (likely due to the
scooped mids
), but that depends on your taste and how your amp/setup reacts to it. You could also consider the D-Sonic, which is supposed to sound like something in between a Steve's Special and a Tone Zone.

Re: New to Dimarzios/New pick-ups RGT42DXFM
if your newer to the dimarzio line then i suggest you go to
www.dimarzio.com
and check out thier pickup picker feature . When the dimarzio site loads it is on the bottom right hand side . Click on the pickup picker icon and it will ask you some questions about if you are looking for a birdge pickup or neck pickup and if you are looking for a single coil or humbucker . Once you have that done there are some drop down boxes that ask some more questions .
Anyways once your done it will provide you three choices of pickups that may suit what you want .
I offen find the selections a little strange but there is at least one pickup that will match up prefect for sound your going for .
