Noob player/Custumizer

My guitar has a 5 way switch and i want to know, If i installed a new pickup would it still have the 5 distinct tones or does it have to be wired in some special way?

Thanks for your time.

Re: Noob player/Custumizer

if you wired it up the same way as the old pickup, and the pickups were the same type, then yes. it would function exactly the same as before.

If you're replacing a single coil with a humbucker then things can be different, but its still pretty easy to wire it up so everything is the same.

Thanks for the reply, neway yea I just want to change the bridge pickup, its a humbucker. It is a v8 stock pickup that came with my RG which sounds a bit too bassy for my taste.

Try adjusting the height of the pickup before you go spending money on a new one. Also make sure if you replace it you replace it with a 4 conductor humbucker

Re: Noob player/Custumizer

I would say however that the stock pickups in a lot of ibanez guitars get yanked and upgraded as soon as it leaves the box, particularly the V8s. Basically anything that isn't a fully fledged dimarzio.

You can improve the sound a lot with pickup height adjustments and itll certainly save you money, but in the long run if you have the cash to replace the pickups you wont be dissapointed.

And in the event you sell the guitar, keep the old ones to put back in, and keep your awesome new dimarzios/duncans/emgs for another guitar!
