Old B.C. Rich gunslinger upgrades
Hey there ..I have an old Bc Rich gunslinger I found in my basement (bought it for 10 dollars back in '04,so that should tell you what kind of shape it's in.) and I might upgrade some stuff on it for a fun project.Problem is...
Fretboard/neck is shot, would need to order a new one from warmoth or somewhere
Made of Plywood (yes you read that correct)
Has 1 ****ty humbucker with a volume control, and a stop tail bridge that needs repair.
What can I do here to upgrade this beast ..what kind of pickup would sound good in a plywood body

I'd say try an EMG 81 or similar; it'll be too busy sounding like an EMG 81 to sound like plywood.

Awesome I have one almost just like it! It was my first guitar.
I don't think they called that the gunslinger, It was "platinum ST" from what I remember...

Cool cool ..yeah my bad man ,the guitar had no name on it , so it looked enough like a gunslinger ripoff so I called it that! haha

Re: Old B.C. Rich gunslinger upgrades
You are the prime example of a day late or a dollar short.... I literally just threw a Fret board off a BC rich ST in the burn pile last week! I didnt think anyone would ever need it. This guitar was bought off 3bay years ago and it was destroyed by our friendly brown truck drivers and they paid the claim finally and left the remnants with me. The headstock was destroyed and the body took some pretty good blows judgin from the gouges in it.
Sorry!
Kramer Aerostars and Strikers were made of plywood too. They commonly come with EMG passives when EMG really started to be in the spotlight around 1985/6
Good luck with your project!

Re: Old B.C. Rich gunslinger upgrades
thanks everyone! .. I was thinking maple jackson-style neck with a bulleyes ZW paint job..(If i screw up the design i'll just go with either ivory or black) EMG 81 and a fender vintage trem (the original trem on the guitar was a cheapo fender copy, but IDENTICAL to a fender, so it fits good)

Re: Old B.C. Rich gunslinger upgrades
There's a guy on the bc rich forum who was selling a bunch of bronze/rave series necks relatively cheap. I think the guy had 6 of them and last I knew he was down to 3. If you're interested in maybe using one of those necks p.m. me and I'll forward some info to you.
