Question

Paf Pro - Jem single coil and....

hi all,

upgrading pups in my RG form the V7/v8/s1 to either; (n-m-b)

paf pro - jem single - paf pro

OR

paf pro - jem single - mo joe

which one would be better for general all round playing? (mainly classic rock to satch to metallica to kings of leon style)

thanks

A while ago i tried out Mo Joe (Bridge) - Red Velvet (SC Middle) - Paf Joe (Neck) and it was a perfect combination!
Normal PAF Pro doesnīt fit that good with a Mo Joe because of itīs low output compared to the Mo Joe.

That's strange affirmation because the regular PAF PRO output is 300 mv, the PAF JOE output is 272 mv, the Mo'Joe output is 320 mv and the FRED output is 305 mv.

that;s what i was thinking when i was looking at the site - i use the bridge pup most of the time so i was thinking a mo joe would be a bit more ouput and cut through a bit better

I like the PAF Pro/JEM Single/PAF Pro combo.

I just posted a review of it on my RG550 restoration project:

for what its worth, i think the PAF Joe is a much better neck pup than the Pro. I have two JSs, one with the Joe and one with the Pro and i absolutely like the Joe better. Its a little lower output. To me it sounds clearer and its much better clean than the pro.

I also have a mo joe i the bridge with the paf joe and i love it. Nice tone, great harmonics, awesome pickup all around. If you like the overall tone of the FRED but want a little more snarl, the Mo Joe is a great choice.

would it match nicely with a paf pro then? i thought it would due to it being only slight higher output than the fred

You mean a Pro neck and MoJoe bridge combo? Hmm, not sure. I like the Joe better than the Pro, so i havent really thought about the Pro/MoJoe combo.

It would probably work fine except for the middle position (both pups active) might be a bit dark/muddy since the Joe is brighter/clearer than the Pro and the MoJoe is thicker than the Fred.
