PAF pro pole pieces
Was thinking of getting a zebra
PAF pro
but I don't like the look of the black pole pieces against the cream bobbin, would it be possible to swap them for the chrome ones out of a
super distortion
? are they the same size?

I think you can specify your preference of pole type.

I like the black against cream best! Those two colours always look classy. I would put silver ones in the black coil though.

Re: PAF pro pole pieces
yeah i kinda want to change pole pieces if i get an
evo bridge
for my rg, i want it to have the chrome poles with the black covering. How do you do this anyway? also aren't all the poles in pickups different so you can't just swap poles from pickups and make them sound the same as the did before?

Re: PAF pro pole pieces
The hex head pole pieces just screw out, I'm just not sure they're all the same size. I would imagine they are, but I wanted to be sure.

Re: PAF pro pole pieces
PAF Pro and Super D/Dual Sound pole pieces are different, and not interchangeable.
The PAF Pro type ones, used in only a few
DiMarzio pickup
models, are more of a 'bolt' (has a head on it) whereas the others like the Super D use the 'set screw' type (no head on those).
Pickups like the Fred share that larger-head polepiece.

what about dim/ibz pole pieces and evo ones? do they switch out and it won't effect the sound?

Re: PAF pro pole pieces
You can get pole pieces from Dimarzio. I bought 24 chrome ones for a set of Evolutions for $10 shipped. Just call the number on their website. Be *sure* the lady on the phone understands exactly the pup you need them for though, as she sent me 24 of the Fred-type (thin shaft with large head) by mistake the first time. I got to keep those BTW.

Re: PAF pro pole pieces
Sorry for the late reply - I don't know about an IBZ
pole switch
with DiMarzios, although I have to think they might not fit. Plus, a lot of the IBZ ones have one fixes/flat and one adjustable (screw) type set of coil poles. That's how it was with my 06 RG1527...
Best to get the poles from DiMarzio. I had an email discussion with Steve Blucher about the whole pole piece topic, as I was changing out chrome ones with correct spec available set-screws. End result; shouldn't affect the tone in any noticable way.
Should run that by
Eric Johnson
first, though... =]

Re: PAF pro pole pieces
According to Dimarzio's, they can change pole piece color if you order direct by e-mailing them. It costs $10, though.
