Paf Pro Vs Paf JOE?

Yo!
I bought a JS1000 a few weeks ago, I'm really pleased with the Guitar and it sounds nice, however, I'm a little disappointed with the PAF Pro.

I have a PAF Pro and a Tonezone in my RG550 and I've never had any complaints as it's quite a good combo.

I'm not sure whether the PAF pro in the JS1000 compliments the FRED very well. I prefer the FRED much more. Has anyone tried both the Joe and the original Paf Pro, wondering whether it might be worth upgrading? Is there a big difference in sound between these two pickups, or is it too little to warrant the hassle.

Re: Paf Pro Vs Paf JOE?

I've had both PAF Pros and PAF Joes in my PGMs. I no longer have the PAF Pros. One of my PGMs has a PAF Joe in the neck position and I love it compared to the PAF Pro. When I play with the guitar's volume wide open with a distorted tone, it's a smooth, fat yet articulated tone. The tone is tubular just as Dimarzio claims. When I turn the guitar's volume down with a distorted tone, the guitar tone becomes more single-coil coil like. It's really quite amazing.

I know a lot of folks like the PAF Pro but for me, I've never really liked it. It's always been an in between kind of tone (bright but not bright enough and fat but not fat enough). The PAF Joe is much more to my like and is one of my 2 favorite neck pickups though I'm starting to feel like it is my favorite period.

Same here, I 'upgraded' to Paf Joes as they sound bloody fantastic, in fact I have one spare if interested ;-)

PAF Joe has a little more "oomph" to it.

the paf joe is alot better than the paf pro to my ears as well. alot more character. has more of an air norton vibe to it. like a fatter fred in the neck.
sounds really good with a mo joe, too.
