PAF Pros for the hard-rock sound?

Not looking for a metal sound, looking for a low-to-mid output pickup for hard rock (Foo Fighters, etc). Will the PAF Pro fit that bill, or something else?

Re: PAF Pros for the hard-rock sound?

in both positions ?

in the bridge no , i tried a paf pro in the bridge once and hated it . No balls , no guts , i hated it . I played a jem 777 with the paf pro in the bridge and again didn't like it one bit . the paf pro is a great neck pickup , if your going for a mid range output bridge pickup look at the fred or Mo'joe . there is somthing about that little bit of extra power and mid spike that make the fred head and shoulders above the paf pro in the bridge .

other then the fred and mo'joe you may check out the air zone , breed neck in the bridge, virtual hot paf , and maybe the tone zone or super distortion . the super distortion has a unique almost vintage voice sound, a lot of guys use it to get the brown sound in thier 5150 single pickup guitars .

Re: PAF Pros for the hard-rock sound?

Look at the guitars that both guys in the Foos use - that should tell you pretty quickly - Standard Gibsons - Pat Smear (is it still him?) uses a V and whassisface plays mostly Firebird Studios these days - pretty much straight from the Gibson Factory - last time i saw them they were both play through Mesa Dual Rectifiers - so your choice of pickup would be more along the lines of Gibson 498T/490R alnicos, or Seymour Duncan 59s, or similar, and a huge Rectifier style amp! - the heavy sound is the amp being driven, not distortion!

Cheers

David

The '59 sounds good... are there any places to order them custom? I'm looking for neck and bridge in white, with no logo. I can only find neck white on all the major retail sites.

i've got paf pro's in the bridge on three of my guitars. i love em. especially if you use pedals for distortion, they are very clear, have a decent amount of output, and just an all around great pickup.

Paf Pro's are pretty cool, pretty "in between" average kinda pickup . Not to high bass, Not to Low bass not to much high end not and vice versa.

PAF pro's don't have much output but i think they sound great. they'd work great for foo fighters. I love the clarity of those pickups.

Okay, sounds more like I want a Tone Zone then. If I were to have a Tone Zone in the bridge, what would be a good neck pickup to match it?

tone zone sounds like the thing has a built-in fuzz box in it. it's distorted and bass and mids are boosted way up. it works well with heavy metal/rock stuff. but it's a bit too over-the-top for classicrock stuff in my opinion. The PAF pro is a more tamed beast, more suited for classic distortions.

but if you get a tone zone, i suggest a dimarzio PAF on the with it, or a PAF pro.
