Cool

Perfect S/S/H combo

Help me with my little project if you please
To avoid my fingers bleed I bought a cheap Washburn X series axe to modd it as a hobby, its all stripped down, paint its all gone (after several hours of sanding) and I´m ready to refinish the body,,,,,but wait! I have to figure out the electronics first...this it where you come in.....I´m looking for the perfect pups for the new toy. Its a s/s/h alder body ( I think its alder) any way I will like to hear some ideas to choose the pups. Yes! the tone...I know that is a personal mater but I´m in the quest for something to fill my VAI, Satriani, YJM and something in between) thirst....I like soloing....the type of shred to kick someones brains out like the ones in 80´s long hair bands.
ANy way shoot your dream pup combo and help me make up my mind.....

Re: Perfect S/S/H combo

I'll probalby get blasted for this, and this may not really even be the sound you're looking for but I for that combo I love two EMG SA's and an EMG 85. But if you are looking for hair metal you'd probably want to go with an EMG 81, since it has a bit better tone for soloing. The SA's are some of the cleanest sounding single coils I've played.

Wow 3 for the price of one! Thanks for the reply...interesting combos you have there mate...one of my guitars has a Evolution on the bridge and I want something different...that leaves me 2 choices... one and three to checkout and without to much analysis number 3 seems more appealing at first glance

Edit....

I spent the las 2 hours hearing gazillion pups on the different web pages....I know is not the best method but gives me more idea about it....anyway...those Area 58 and 67´s really got my attention they have that strat sound to die for (I said STRAT please dont ban me LOL) those really seem to be a couple of finalist.....I found that the hard part is going to on the bridge position, many Dimarzios sound great!

LOL! yeah I bet actives around here are not the most popular, BTH that sa/sa/81 has been in my mind for some time now...I have to admit I a big fan of Gilmour (MR. FLOYD) and well he uses those SA´s.
The only thing that holds me is that actives have the bad reputation of producing somehow "fake" sounds....true? myth?

Re: Perfect S/S/H combo

Neck = Dimarzio Chopper. Gives a great bubbly, Yngwie tone that's powerful and articulated with distortion. and sounds like a fat thick Strat when clean.

Middle = Dimarzio Jem single coil. I don't like this by itself but it work great when you split the bridge pickup with it. Drops the volume down and cleans up distortion very nicely.

Bridge = Dimarzio Tone Zone. Thick and articulated at the same time.

they can sound a bit compressed, but I did the 18 volt mod and it does open them up more.
