Phase switch?

Hi,

What kind of sound does a phase switch give? How would you describe it?

I've checked out a description of it on the internet, but it was only a technical description, which didn't describe the actual sound that it gives.

What happens with a phase switch is the pickups are wired so the outputs cancel. If the sound was identical from each pickup then you'd get nothing!
What you get is the difference in output from the two pickups selected out of phase.
For example say you selected the neck and bridge humbuckers to be out of phase you'd get the differnce between them. You'd get the bassy sound of the neck, and the trebly sound of the bridge with the frequencies in the middle that are common to both cancelling.
Usually the treble sounds dominate in an out of phase setting.
The best known example is Brian May's solo sound in Bohemian Rhapsody, Neck and Middle single coils out of phase Thin, Shrill and Superbly Screaming!
