Interesting. I think I'd rather install a push/pull coil split instead of removing screws from the pickups but that's just me.

That also what I thought but besides it being noiseless I wonder if there's any tone advantage.

Also removing those screws would probably affect the wax inside the humbucker.

An easier mod is to dump in a Tele pickup with adapter ring.

Agreed, this has been done for a long time by the blues guys. An EJ custom bridge model will sound similar without needing an adapter.

Removing the pole pieces won't affect the pickup at all. It's totally safe..........
