Pickup Noise from Paf Pros?

hi
ive got this ibanez rg 350dx that someone gave to me.i think the guitar is a 98 model according to the serial.. anywyas
the person who gave it to me changed the stock pickups to dimarzio paf pros in the neck n bridge and some other dimarzio single coil in the middle position. it sounds fine except when im using positions 4 and 2 ( the neck or bridge with the middle) im getting alot of noise. is this normal? or is there someway to get rid of the noise?

2 and 4 I think are the split and single coil, so chances are you might see a bit of noise. Is it just general noise, not a nasty buzz??

1. Check the soldering and grounding. A lot of people who do their own swaps botch this.

2. Are the pups, especially the single, potted? That will help immensely.

3. How well shielded is it? I used to be a Strat guy (still have a Strat 7 with Lindy Frailin pups) and honestly the idea that single coils have to hum like crazy is baloney. If you have proper shielding, wiring, potted pups, and clean soldering then it should not hum noticeably.

well ive had a guitar with single coils but it didnt hum like this. when i use the single coil by itself its fine, its just when i switch to a humbucker+ the single coil, i get a realy annoying noise. all pickups are potted

Try reversing the grounded wire with the hot wire... I suspect it'll work.

Good luck, regards

I'd bet the single coil is humbucking by itself but it's not wired correctly to be humbucking when combined with a coil from the neck or bridge humbucker.
