Pickup Positions

I've got an RG 20th, so this of course means it has the H-S-H pup configuration. I'm aware of what the different positions means as far as what pickup is being used, but I was wondering if someone could just list what styles/sounds each of the positions are appropriate for? Neck and Bridge are my standards, but I would like to get into using the other positions for different sounds. Obviously I can just experiment, but I'm just wondering what everyone uses the different positions for...

Thanks!

Re: Pickup Positions

There really isnt any set "rules" as what pickups to use for what.
Personally I play about 90% of my leads with the neck pickup, while some people dont even use a neck pickup. Just use what you like when you like to

Re: Pickup Positions

Yeah, I know there are no "rules" - I just thought it'd be interesting to see what people use for what. I also do quite a bit of my leads with the neck pup, but I love switching to the bridge every once in a while for that extra aggressive tone.

Re: Pickup Positions

I think its a matter of what and where I'm playing. Last Friday at a gig I played most of my leads in the position between the bridge and middle (RG550) - middle and split single coil of the bridge. It just responded and sung better than the rest. At a gig the weekend before I played the neck and bridge.

Re: Pickup Positions

i really love to play leads with my neck pickup aswell.
but i think in between neck and middlle produces the best clean sound so i use it for more blues and its sounds great with a bit of crunch.

Re: Pickup Positions

The middle position is very under-rated. I use it quite often for bluesy rock rhythm stuff, then flick to either humbucker for the lead.
