Pickup problems?

OK, I have 3 guitars with EMGs and for some reason they all started sounding "twangy"(to describe the sound it's almost like I'm picking right next to the bridge). Even the 707 in the LACS Dino sounds like this. They just don't seem to have the output that they should. At first I thought maybe the batteries were dying or dead so I replaced them all. Still twangy. I even replaced the strings with a different brand to see if that might have something to do with it. It seems that this problem developed about 1 or 2 months ago. Before then all my EMG equipped guitars sounded great!
Has anybody else had any problems similar to this?
I can see maybe the pickups in one guitar going bad but 3 at the same time?
Also I will add that I have played them through both of my amp setups. Through both amps the guitars sound the same, twangy.
If it's not the pickups, could it be cables, etc? I've recently replaced the tubes in the preamp that's part of my main setup (power amp and effects are solid state) so I wouldn't think tubes are the problem.
Anyway, I would just like to know if anyone has any advice out there.

Thanks

Donnie

I'd definately try a new cable. If its an old cable, the strands inside the cable can start to break one by one, espesially around the jacks, leaving you with a very weak connection to your amp.

If all three were acting up at once, it is most likely not the individual guitars.

Cable is the first place to look, next would be the input jack on your pre-amp....if that doesn't locate the problem, then just trace your signal path until you find the culprit.
