Question

Pickup questions

Hey there,
I wanted to ask 2 questions
1. I'm getting new pickups for my guitar and i have already decided for a PAF PRO in the neck, and for the bridge i want to get either a FRED pickup or a Mo' Joe pickup.. my question is.. which has better harmonc attributes, because i want those harmonics to screeam..
I'm only asking this because the Mo' Joe is newer than the FRED pickup, but i want to make sure with some people who know about these pickups

2. When i put the new pickups in, can i put the pickups in a configuration similar to the H-H configuration found in Ibanez RG and SA guitars ? I want this because then i do not have to change my middle pickup also, but i still love the 2 and 4 positions that give me a great clean or jazzy tone with a little bite
Thanks

Re: Pickup questions

The PAF Pro has a bit more nasally/ bluesy tone IMO. It makes a great combination with either the Fred or the Mo' Jo because you have a pretty broad spectrum of tones; from blues to crunch.

A couple of suggestions. First off, check your string width to determine wether or not you'll need the F- spaced pickups. (You can either measure the string width or call the company) Secondly, to get that SCREAM, you may have to fine tune the height of the pick- ups once their in. If they're too low, you'll miss a bit of the harmonics and if their too high it could make your tone muddy. Experiment a little and you'll get a killer tone. Just raise or lower a little at a time and you'll find the "sweet spot".

Personally, I'm a bit partial to the Pro/ Fred combo, but I think both will work fine.

Hope this helps,

JV

Re: Pickup questions

@ Jval4 : Thanks for the reply man

I was dead set on getting the PAF PRO and FRED pickup, but now i heard a demo of the TONE ZONE in the neck and it sounds awsome, and i was researching on Michael Romeo and found out he uses the same pickup in the Neck as well..
What i usually use the neck pickup is for 2 reasons..
1. I want to get that awsome rythm tone, i know alot of people use the bridge for rythm, but i like the darker sound of the neck pickup for rythm
2. For great shreding.. and this pick up sounds harsh and in your face in the neck..
So now im really interested in that pickup
I also saw an X2n as a bridge pickup.. any feedback on that ?
I would just like to hear your opinions on it, and help me make the right choice haha.. thanks

Oh and by the way i have an S 470DXQM, does this guitar require f-spaced pickups ?

Some people view and there's already answer to your question so they don't post

PAF Pro/Fred is an awesome combo. Wonderful harmonics.
